Reading Responsibly
by Peggy Firth, Certified Tarot Master
The other day I read that the economic situation is creating a rise in the number of folks consulting Tarot readers. Perhaps this is a good thing, however, it behooves us to be prepared for some difficult questions. It’s also times like this that create more attention to spiritual matters. In tough times or when injury/illness occurs, people often begin to turn inward and to God for answers. We may be able to assist with this process by listening and asking the right questions. As much as we would like to ‘fix’ a person’s life we should know that three important activities have taken place:
* The client has made an effort to meet which is a step towards healing
* Listening allows the client to clarify and formulate his/her issue(s)
* Nearly half of the stress is lifted when communication takes place
Our job as good listeners has already calmed most of the client’s burden so a reading is merely a bonus.
As readers we may be of greater assistance when we assist our clients by clarifying and constructing questions that are most helpful and illuminating. Often the underlying cause of a situation arises for a healing and understanding during a reading.
Opportunities for the Tarot reader to teach spiritual truth concerning issues about evolving, growing and learning life lessons may be uncomfortable but ultimately helpful.
Relationships – We come to this earth to evolve spiritually and relationships are the most challenging opportunities. If a person is stuck and is unable or unwilling to move on, severe heartache, disease or injury may occur. Our complicated lifestyle creates multiple problems when it comes to splitting up families but the fact remains that spirit is in constant movement and demands growth and change.
Material things – The outer world of material things is an illusion and will not create happiness. After the basics are acquired happiness occurs when fulfilling experiences happen. We can discuss the kinds of experiences that can lift our client. Example: a new hobby, work expression, and ways to meet new friends.
Injury/disease – The superconscious mind often creates and shakes up things when the ego refuses to budge. This may be a time to explore the root cause of such an experience. The body internalizes negative experiences and thoughts which can create dis-ease. Breast cancer is a socially acceptable way to die or change a relationship. Bodily pain or disease can also represent an inability to function normally such as back pain due to problems with self support.
Loss/lack – Our culture teaches that one must strive for happiness rather than wallow in guilt or negativity. Becoming a good steward with money, career and personal relationships takes time and a balanced approach to life events. Not everyone is able to ‘have it all.’ Job losses may have benefits since our culture and work ethic ties people down and may not allow for much time off.
We are also not aware of karmic debts that makes life seem unfair. Achieving a higher level of awareness and spirituality attracts less unfairness and negativity.
As Tarot readers we have opportunities to reveal, teach, heal and clarify many obstacles which cause mental and physical pain. Are you up to the task?
